Back to school means back to packing those wonderful school lunches for our children for some of us. Have you wondered about whether to use paper, material or plastic to transport all those lunches to school everyday? I did, and this is what I found out about using a eco-friendly lunch containers.
In these
financially challenging times, a penny saved is a penny earned for sure. In
fact if you are an adult with lots of pennies saved, you might be interested in
purchasing a designer paper bag to tote your lunch “fashionably” to your
workplace. According to www.huffingtonpost.com
, Jill Sanders designed the “Vasari Bag” for 29,000 pennies. Actually Louis
Peitzman of awker.com describes Jill Sanders fancy lunch bag in the following
way,
“Ok,
it’s a brown paper bag with visible stitching, some gold colored eyelets, and ‘Jill
Sanders’ printed on the bottom, but it’s still a brown paper bag.”
I was
surprised to learn that even at it’s outrageous $290 retail price, the Vasari
bag is currently SOLD OUT.
It makes me
wonder why anyone with 29,000 pennies burning a hole in their pocket would
choose to spend all that money on a brown paper lunch bag. Do they know that
44% of children are living below the poverty level today? In other words, a
family of four with an earning income of $22,000 is squeezing every penny just
to provide food, shelter, and clothes for their children EVERY SINGLE DAY, and
some rich consumers are spending $290 on a wonderfully wasteful brown paper
bag. I know it’s hard to believe that this is true, so I invite you to check
out these articles I found on the web:
Speaking of
wasteful - Did you know that school lunches are the second largest form of
waste in schools next to paper waste? According to PureNaturalDiva.com, school
lunch waste accounts for 3.5 BILLION pounds of trash in landfills each year.
How would you like help to help the environment, offer your children healthier
lunch choices, and put some extra money in your pocket? If you make a few
simple changes, you can save $250 a year per child.
You will
need:
1. An insulated reusable lunch box
2. Reusable ice packs for lunch boxes
3. A Thermos for hot lunches (soup,
stews, pastas)
4. Reusable containers (to hold yogurt,
sandwiches, wraps, veggies, snacks, fruit)
5. A beverage holder (juice, milk,
water)
6. Reusable utensils (preferably
inexpensive just in case they don’t come back)
7. Napkins
Would you
use the Vasari Bag? What do you use to pack your family’s lunch? My husband
carries a waste free lunch to work every day. Yes we have to wash out all the
containers, but the money we save takes the sting out of busting suds every
day. Of course saving my family money is great, but I’m doing what any smart
consumer would do – save money and save the environment. His initial purchase for the lunch bag ($12, Wegman), the shaker bottles ($9 per bottle, GNC) have paid for itself in the first week of use. In the past hubby would spend more than $25 a day eating out at restaurants on work days, but now his two Vi-Shape shake meals cost about $4 a day - and only about 200 calories each. Best of all, my
husband’s waste free lunch provides him with healthier choices, and that makes
me feel great!
My wonderful husband decided to join me in the 90 day challenge one
month ago, and I am so proud of him. He packs his waste free breakfast and lunch of 2 shakes everyday. Last night, he and N went for an "aerobic walk"
after dinner. He says he has so much more energy throughout the day,
and for the first time in years - he feels great!!!! He is enjoying the Vi-Life - greater nutrition, health, fitness. Real talk, real
people. I believe in this product so much that I can't stop talking
about it. Learn more at my website http://delanasmith.myvi.net/index.html
If you pack
your husband’s or child’s lunch every day, it’s not too late to get the waste
free lunch items for them. Run to your local Walmart or Target and purchase
those waste free lunch items listed above to start saving money today. We can
save our planet one smart choice, one day at a time. Change your brain, and
change your life!
